ATL Training (English)

Within the framework of the project, various materials have been developed to train professionals working with homeless people on peer support and to train people with experience of having lived on the streets themselves to become Journey Certified Supporters (JCS).

A manual has been developed for professionals; it provides conceptual and practical information on the peer support model as it applies to interventions with homeless people. The manual covers topics such as the principles and values of peer support, the role of peer supporters, how to implement the model in an organisation, etc. It also provides an introduction to restorative justice and its practical application with homeless people.

Once professionals have been trained on this model, the idea is that they, in turn, train homeless people who are at an advanced stage of their recovery process to become JCS. To this end, in addition to the manual, a training programme has been designed that includes practical activities and explains step-by-step how to train future JCS.

In addition to preparing professionals to train future JCS, the ATL training model also prepares them to work side by side with them, to carry out joint interventions and to support them in carrying out their role. The model aims to inspire the creation of a professional relationship of equality, respect and mutual learning.

The JCS Manual is an accessible and easy to understand tool to be provided to those who are being trained as JCS. Its function is to support their training process by providing them with essential information about the peer support model and the role of the JCS. The manual contains information that will help them learn how to harness their resources and effectively use their life experience to help those who find themselves in an extremely vulnerable situation. Those who take the training will also improve a range of competencies and skills that can facilitate their future access to the labour market.
